Why tiny steps work

Courage is not the absence of fear. It is being scared and taking one small step anyway. Aiza never stops feeling scared in this story; she learns that a big goal shrinks when it is cut into steps small enough to succeed at, and that every step is a win worth celebrating.

Water safety: the story always shows an adult in the water with Aiza. Keep young children within arm's reach in and around water, remember that floats never replace an adult watching, and choose lessons with a qualified instructor.

Questions parents ask

Is this a good book for a child who is scared of swimming?

Yes, that is exactly who it was written for. It shows a gentle, step-by-step approach to the water, gives children a Brave Breath for nervous moments, and includes a Tiny Steps Ladder to fill in before lessons.

What age is it for?

Ages 5 to 8: a read-aloud for younger children and an early independent read for 7 and 8 year olds.

Do we need to read Book 1 first?

No. Each Think Big Kids book stands on its own. Book 1, Aiza and the Word Yet, introduces Nope and Yet.

What is inside besides the story?

Meet the characters, the Tiny Steps Ladder, the Brave Breath, a Nope-or-Yet brave edition quiz, a printable Brave Badge and a note for grown-ups.
